mmHg is a unit for measuring pressure, and is used for measuring the compression of compression hosiery. The higher the mmHg, the more the stocking will squeeze the leg.
Class 1: 10-15mmHg
This is the level of compression of a typical over-the-counter flight sock. This class of compression is recommended for those who get tired, aching legs from sitting or standing for long periods, but have no other underlying health issues.
Class 2: 15-20mmHg
These are for people whose legs are prone to fatigue and swelling. Pregnant women, people with spider or varicose veins, or people with inherited circulatory problems may need to wear 15-20 mmHg compression stockings.
Class 3: 20-36mmHg
Patients with a lot of heaviness and swelling in the legs, mild varicose veins, varicose veins during pregnancy, or who’ve just undergone vein surgery will need to wear this class of compression.
Contraindications:
Compression hosiery should not be worn by people with arterial insufficiency, skin infections, congestive heart failure, intolerance of compression stocking fabric, sensory disturbances of the limb, advanced peripheral neuropathy, or primary chronic arthritis. Please consult your doctor if you are not sure about wearing compression hosiery.
No liability accepted in case of non-observance of these contraindications.
